Shea Hambrey on his Biennial, Seek

There is a lot of conversation on whether this is supporting, criticizing, taking advantage of, etc the contemporary art world. He does talk a lot about it in the opening of his talk. My opinion: If he is criticizing, he is doing it with the system and langue of that which he critiques and, so, at some level is perpetuating those very things - thus confusion. That is good, and new - though there have been others who have done similar things before.

All in all… honestly, I like it. If for anything, we see a foundation and critique of work that includes the tryptic of the soul - even if not used in that language (“the three h’s”). This gives me hope that there can be significant critiques based on the whole person and on some definable absolutes in the contemporary art world. This work at least draws this into focus as a main question. Now, to understand the works and their relation to these absolutes (ad to help us define them), we must give each piece time and study.
